Christiane Dahlbeck – Love at first sight.
Slightly more than a year ago, just a beginner in the charming word of cross-stitch and eagerly searching for information about this creative world, absorbing it with admiration and passion, got stunned when saw it in a tiny hobby shop in the centre of Copenhagen – “Blütentanz” dancing flowers on bright green! Looked at every page, the whole book several times, more on motives that arouse my admiration (those in love with German designs will definitely know the feeling!).
Didn’t buy right away and in a weeks’ time gone. But thanks Google found more about the designer herself and her website. Ordered the book, linen and threads.
Started the work only this spring, finished only now, basically close to Christmas. Not a problem, let it relax till spring when it will honour our dining table. And, spring is soon!
Linenband, natural unbleached, (ungebleicht, 11-fädig, (Vaupel & Heilenbeck), 45 cm wide, felt as a very thick rough fabric to embroid, after finishing and washing, it transformed to the most pleasant tender linen.
Threads V&H (Vaupel & Heilenbeck) и HF (Haandarbejdets Fremme), even though produced in Denmark is more favourably priced in Germany. Used DMC instead of OE (Fa.Oehlenschlagers) as only several crosses to stitch. V&H looks thicker than DMC so I started with 2 threads in the beginning but it looked too rough – moved to only 1.
All in all, worked with 1 thread over 2 threads of fabric. Result below, enjoy!
Absense of backstitch, French knots (though not in this design) and step stitches add to the charm of Christiane Dahlbeck’s designs.
